"When a family doesn't have a car, it makes it very hard for them to get to a grocery store, keep a well-paying job, or get to a doctor. RWJF supports More Than Wheels because their innovative program places vulnerable families on the path to economic security that leads to healthier living."

Creating Lasting Change

At More Than Wheels, we are committed to promoting long-lasting social change. With our program, clients not only get a solution to their immediate transportation problem, they are also able to make permanent changes in their lives as a result of the newfound knowledge and self-esteem they gain from our focus on improving their financial decision making and physical health.

Proven Results

As a result of the new transportation and support clients receive through our program, many find that they are able to improve their job prospects, their family’s health and well-being, their credit and their overall financial stability. A survey conducted by the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire showed that among More Than Wheels clients surveyed:

  • 75 percent reported spending less on car repairs.
  • 73 percent reported a better overall financial outlook.
  • 50 percent are better able to get to their jobs.
  • 55 percent had an increased ability to transport family members.
  • 52 percent had improved access to health care.
  • 38 percent have improved access to nutritious food options.
